A New, Consumer-Centric In-Store Experience

Objective

Tire Discounters Inc., ranked No. 10 on Modern Tire Dealers (MTD) list of the Top 100 independent tire dealers, wanted a departure from the image that many consumers have of a typical tire store.

Opportunity

Driven by research and customer feedback from the retailer’s multiple locations, and most importantly, that 62% of their customers are female, Tire Discounters’ wanted to combine their foundation, built on distinctive customer service, with an amazing in-store experience. They wanted a customer-friendly environment that contained all the amenities to make her comfortable and provide resources to help her make more informed decisions.

Solution

KDM P.O.P. Solutions Group partnered with Tire Discounters’ marketing and operations teams and their architectural firm, to design their “store of the future”. Design innovations included an open, contemporary showroom that customers would enjoy spending time in.

The new store concept has flat screen TV’s in the waiting areas, a refreshment bar, free wi-fi, a child’s play area, and family restrooms with diaper changing stations. The most radical departure is the live video in the waiting room that enables customers to watch as their cars are being worked on. Drive-through bays, ergonomic placement of equipment and mobile check-out improve efficiency and speed of service.

KDM’s collaboration on the prototype store and several other new stores and remodels in the Midwest have provided Tire Discounters an ease of doing business by being able to execute multiple services by one provider:

Custom design, manufacturing, millwork of store fixtures and displays
Store décor, signage and graphics
Installation of displays and décor
Point-of-purchase printed materials

Results

Tire Discounters presented KDM with the Partner of the Year award in 2014 for providing excellent service and efficiency in the execution of their new retail store environment.
